Day 86 to 90 - km 3148,2 to 3436,8

I said I was going to start flying and that's exactly what happened. The wind has been helping and I've almost flown down the hills when I've been walking at night. I knew that the south of California was going to be the true traveling experience in the southern part of the trail. Few or no people on the way, amazing!

On day 86 I spent all day without seeing a single person. I started walking at 4.30 am and stopped at 11 at night. The only thing that reminded me there were other people around was a hunter's tent. I was talking very loudly and when I realised I shut up and turned off my flashlight. For a while I kept looking back, but I don’t think I woke anybody.

On day 87 I did not walk much, the water was scarce and tasted awful, the wind was strong, and there was a lot of sand and dust in the air. I passed many hunters, and they asked if I had seen any deer. I hadn’t, but even if I had... I wouldn’t have told them.

On day 88 I woke up thinking about taking on a challenge, two marathons in a row, 80km. I did it but ended after 1 am on the 89th day. I lay down under a tree for 3 hours and at 5 am I started walking the 11 km remaining to Wrightwood Village. An hour later I saw a boy sitting against a tree, and it was the Highlander. His mattress had burst and it was cold. I had not seen a hiker on the trail since the day after Mt. Whitney. We had breakfast together and then went shopping. When I went to lunch I found Cruise Control, a boy I had camped with on my second day and who I had been with at the monument. Deep in conversation, I lost track of time, but it was so good to see him there.

Day 90 made me dream of the cold and delicious water of the mountains – I spent almost all day walking amongst wind turbines and the aqueduct that takes the water to Los Angeles, and my feet were burning.

Day 86 (73.3 km) - First day without seeing people;

Day 87 (43.3 km) - Very hot, very windy, no water;

Day 88 (74.8 km) - 80 km in one go, I finished at 1 am the following day;

Day 89 (31.6 km) - Resupplied;

Day 90 (65.5 km) - Missing the abundant and fresh mountain water.
