SOUTH

Last September was The Month of Portugal, at least for me. Just in this one month I travelled more around the country than in all my whole life to date, and I am 31 years old.

After travelling those ten days up in the north of Portugal I did seven days down south. During this time I wanted to travel in a different way, I wanted to walk from the village of Sagres up north until my time was over, so I did that. I got a ride from my friend Carlos to Sagres and from there with my clothes, food and tent in my backpack I walked and walked more. For the first couple of days my friend Dário came along with me. The weather was amazing, sunny and warm, it was hard to walk under the sun during the hottest part of the day, and so at that time we always looked for some shade to stop in, ate our lunch and rested.

The purpose of this walk, apart from exploring the coast, was to know how I felt walking several km a day. I felt pretty well to be honest! For the first two days we walked about 15 km a day, and at the end of the second day Dario left and from there I walked on average 30 km a day. I was tired but with no pain, and if I’d had time I would have stayed and walked many more days. The only problem on the whole walk was a blister on my right foot, because of the clean socks I was wearing, I think! Next time I will keep the same socks on the whole trip!

And the south of Portugal?! The only thing I can say is that we have some of the most amazing beaches in the world, as well as some of the best food and climate. Every day I put up my tent in a different place, the last few days alone, and always with amazing scenery around me.

Cheers!
