Did you ever get a hug from somebody who transported you to another reality? No? So sad for you… soon enough I’ll come back to this, but first I will talk about food. This trail is mostly about walking, walking & walking, food, food & food. When we are walking we think about food, loads of food, when we are eating we think about walking, walking more and more. On day 27, I and a bunch of thru hikers reached Timberline Lodge, a lodge with a Mount Hood view full of ski and snowboarder lovers, where we knew they have a breakfast buffet for €17. We paid and for 3 hours in a row we ate, we ate without stopping, I don’t know how many plates of fresh fruit I ate, I don’t know how much yogurt, bread, waffles I ate, I can’t remember what else I ate, I just know that I ate in 3 hours more than I would eat in 2 or 3 days at home and I could have eaten more, easily. It is fun but it is so sad, it looks so greedy and selfish but my body doesn’t stop to ask about food. From there I walked 38 km more and ended having dinner with Koni, a beautiful 60 + years old trail Angel who went to the trail for 3 weeks to feed the hikers. I and 3 more hikers spent the night with her and Dozo, her Dog. Before I went to my tent she asked me if I am an early bird, I said yes, that at 5.30 I will be walking. “Ok, so we won’t see each other again, I just emerge at 6.30 am”, she said. I went over to hug her and automatically I was transported to another dimension where love is the only thing that matters. I am addicted to these hugs where you feel that the other person is feeling, that you connect, that you are not afraid. It isn’t easy to find, but I am lucky enough to know the people who can do it, and yeah, I miss it, I really do miss it so much. Next day she emerged at 6.30 and I was still there. “What happened, Juicy Fruit, you still here?!”, she asked. “I just want another hug”, I replied. She smiled and came to me still smiling and with her arms open. She said thank you so many times, I love these people who come to help others and to share love.
My body is feeling good, some small pain in my feet sometimes but it is easy to walk 40 km + per day.
